MegaChem UK holds a range of accreditations. Each one represents a specific set of standards we’re independently assessed against, covering product quality, environmental management and sustainability, business continuity and ethical sourcing. This blog goes through every accreditation we currently hold, what each one requires of us, and why it should matter to you.
BRC Global Standard for Agents and Brokers
The BRC Global Standard for Agents and Brokers is built specifically for businesses like MegaChem UK that buy, store and sell products without manufacturing them ourselves. It’s a different risk profile to a manufacturing site, and the standard reflects that.
Assessors look at how we verify the authenticity of what we’re selling, how we maintain traceability from the original producer through to your delivery, and how we prevent substitution, dilution or mislabelling anywhere along that chain.
We first achieved BRC accreditation in 2021, at the highest possible grade (AA), and we’ve maintained that grade at every audit since. Our AA rating means an independent auditor found no failures in our documentation, traceability or product handling controls and only minor opportunities for improvement.
Chemical Business Association
The Chemical Business Association (CBA) is the trade body for the UK chemical supply chain, and MegaChem UK is a member. Unlike a certification such as ISO or BRC, CBA membership isn’t something you’re audited into. It’s a mark of where you sit within the industry, and what standards you’re expected to uphold as a result. The CBA represents everyone from manufacturers and distributors to traders, warehouse operators, logistics companies and service providers, giving it a broad view across the chemical supply chain. Membership allows us to provide direct input into regulatory developments, from REACH to classification, labelling and transport rules that affect how chemicals and ingredients move through the UK market. It comes with obligations, too. CBA members are expected to comply with Responsible Care, the industry’s health, safety and environmental commitment, which we’ll come to shortly. Choosing a CBA member means working with a supplier that’s plugged into the regulatory landscape shaping this industry, and is accountable to its peers as well as its customers.
EcoVadis
EcoVadis is widely regarded as the most trusted provider of business sustainability and corporate social responsibility ratings. It assesses companies against criteria covering the environment, labour and human rights, ethical practice and sustainable procurement. It’s a rigorous, evidence-based process. EcoVadis assessors examine our policies, actions and outcomes, then benchmark them against thousands of other companies in comparable sectors. MegaChem UK currently holds a Silver medal, placing us in the top 15% of all companies EcoVadis has rated as of March 2024, and we rank in the top one per cent for our approach to sustainable procurement. If sustainability reporting features in your supply chain due diligence for your customers, investors or regulators, our EcoVadis rating gives you a verified, third-party benchmark.
ISO 9001: quality management
ISO 9001 is the international standard for quality management. It sets out requirements for how a business controls the quality of what it produces or supplies, from leadership involvement in quality objectives through to how non-conformities are identified, recorded and corrected. For a distributor such as ourselves, that means having documented, auditable processes covering how orders are checked, how products are stored and handled to preserve their specification, how complaints are investigated, and how corrective action is tracked through to close-out. Our certificate is UKAS accredited, and it’s audited both internally and externally throughout the year, with no concerns raised at recent audits.
It means you can rely on the same specification, handling standards and level of documentation whether it’s your first order with us or your 50th. It also gives you a formal route through our system if anything ever falls short.
ISO 14001: environmental management
ISO 14001 is the standard for environmental management, covering how a business identifies, manages and reduces the environmental impact of what it does.
For MegaChem UK, that spans how we store and handle chemicals and ingredients to minimise spillage or contamination risk, through to how we manage packaging waste, energy use and transport emissions across our operations. The standard requires a structured approach to identifying our environmental risks and legal obligations, setting objectives to address them, and reviewing performance against those objectives at set intervals, backed by evidence. It sits alongside our other environmental commitments, including our RSPO licence and EcoVadis rating, as part of a broader approach to reducing our environmental impact. If you’re a manufacturer under pressure from your customers or regulators to demonstrate a responsible supply chain, working with us gives you a documented, independently audited environmental management system to point to.
ISO 22301: business continuity
ISO 22301 is the standard for business continuity. It’s the one that gets the least attention but arguably matters most if something goes wrong. It requires us to identify the things that could disrupt our operations, from a fire or IT failure to a supplier collapse or transport disruption, and to have tested plans in place to keep our critical activities running or recover them quickly should one of those events happen. For you as a customer, this standard is all about reliability. You need to know your supply is solid before you need it, not after a disruption has already hit your production line. Holding ISO 22301 means we have documented recovery plans, defined recovery times and a tested process for keeping our products moving to customers, even when something in our operations or supply chain goes wrong.
Responsible Care
Responsible Care is the chemical industry’s global initiative for continuous improvement in health, safety, security and environmental performance (HSSE). It’s different to a certification like ISO, in that it’s a voluntary commitment the industry holds itself to, rather than a scheme run by an external accreditation body. In the UK, Responsible Care covers the whole chemical supply chain, from manufacturers through to distributors and logistics companies. Compliance is expected of every CBA member involved in trading, distributing, handling, moving or storing chemicals, which includes us. In practice, it means we’re committed to keep improving how we manage HSSE risk across everything we do.
Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil
The Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) is the certification scheme for palm oil and palm oil derivatives that meet defined environmental and social standards. It covers issues like deforestation, biodiversity and the rights of local communities and workers. MegaChem UK holds an RSPO Distributors Licence, specific to how we handle certified material. It means we take legal ownership of RSPO-certified products as we store and sell them, but we don’t unpack, repack or relabel them at any stage. Because the product passes through us unchanged, its certified status and supply chain history stay intact from the certified source right through to your delivery. We also review our supply partners to confirm they’re following the same RSPO principles and criteria we’re committed to, so our licence extends to who we choose to work with, not just how we handle products.

Supplier Ethical Data Exchange
Sedex, the Supplier Ethical Data Exchange, is one of the world’s largest platforms for sharing ethical and responsible sourcing data across supply chains. MegaChem UK is a member, which means we maintain a profile on the platform that covers labour standards, health and safety, the environment and business ethics, the four pillars Sedex assesses against.
In practice, this is where our SMETA audit data, policies and supply chain information live, and where your team can review that information. It’s also a two-way system. As a member, we can use Sedex to assess our suppliers against the same standards, which feeds into the ethical sourcing checks we carry out across our supply chain. For you, our Sedex membership means the ethical credentials behind the products you’re buying from us are recorded, auditable and available to review through a shared, independently maintained platform.
