Kumho Mitsui Chemicals is a trustworthy partner that grows together with customers based on top-quality products and advanced technological support.
In the next of our supplier introductions, we are pleased to introduce Kumho Mitsui Chemicals, founded jointly by Kumho Petrochemicals, the world’s largest synthetic rubber maker, and Mitsui Chemicals from Japan, It has produced and supplied MDI (Methylene Diphenyl Diisocyanate) since 1989. MegaChem have great pleasure in offering their range of products to the UK market.
Based in South Korea, Kumho Mitsui Chemicals, they have a production capacity of 350,000 T of MDI per year. MDI is used as one of the main materials for a variety of products used in daily life such as refrigerators, building materials, car interior and exterior materials, vessels, spandex, shoe soles, and synthetic leather.
MDI is classified into different grades according it’s viscosity, this allows the user to choose the most the suitable grade for their application.
The application areas for MDI is wide and varied, they include, insulations for refrigerators and container transport, Insulation panels for construction, LNG carriers, pipes, board foam, wood imitation, spray insulations, auto Instrumental panels and adhesives.
The characteristics of each of their major products areas are as follows:
Polymeric MDI having low viscosity and low functionality, this product features outstanding compatibility with PPG, along with excellent flowability and moldability.
The most widely used product among the polymeric MDI range, Cosmonate M200 is commonly used for various manufacturing purposes, such as the production of rigid polyurethane foams and semi-rigid polyurethane foams.
COSMONATE SR-3001C, SR-500, SR-550
A high-viscosity polymeric MDI with high functionality, it is suitable for the production of Rigid polyurethane foams, due to its excellent flame retardancy and high compressive strength.
Purified monomeric MDI, takes the form of white crystals at room temperature and appears as a clear, colourless liquid when melted.
Monomeric MDI exists as a mixture of 3 isomers: 2,2, 2,4 and 4,4-MDI, each monomer having two reactive isocyanate groups. Monomeric MDI has particularly strong resistance to discoloration, and is applied as a stabilizer against high temperatures and ultraviolet light.
Application areas include, spandex, thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU), synthetic leather, coating, adhesives and elastomers.
MODIFIED MDI SERIES.
A modified form of Monomeric MDI, It maintains stability in a liquid state with low viscosity at room temperatures by converting a portion of Monomeric MDI into carbodiimide.
The modified MDI series are easy to handle and have excellent foaming quality and moldability, application areas include, application areas include, spandex, thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU), synthetic leather, coating, adhesives and elastomers.
SPECIAL MDI SERIES.
Special MDI is liquids at room temperature, and is variously modified according to purposes of use.
Application areas include, spandex, TPU (Thermoplastic polyurethane), synthetic leather, shoes, paints, coating, adhesives, and various elastomers.
We have a range of MDI products available from our UK warehouse. Grades not stocked are available on an extended lead-time. Should you have a specific need or requirement for the products from Kumho Mitsui Chemicals, please do not hesitate the team here at MegaChem.
Please stay tuned for our next supplier focus next month.
