We are very pleased to highlight that one of our key suppliers Daepyung Co., Ltd, who manufacture, and supply Glucosylated Stevia have recently seen the product given full approval by Codex.
The Codex approval process now covers Glucosylated Steviol Glycosides – Glucosylated Stevia is now approved to be used as a sweetener around the world. (Until now, its sweetener usage was permitted only in confined countries – United States, Japan, Korea and Latin American countries such as Brazil, and Mexico.
In Europe, according to EFSA (European Food Safety Authority), Glucosylated Stevia was only permitted to be used for flavour purposes (with limited dosage according to FEMA regulations).
New Technology has also transformed the Stevia industry, enabling sustainable production of Steviol Glycosides such as Reb M and Reb D, which have a better sensory profile and a cleaner taste. These ingredients have proven to be safe alternatives to sugar and other sweeteners for all populations.
As a member of the ISC (International Stevia Council), Daepyung Co., Ltd have been awaiting this confirmation for a number of years, and have now seen their goal for Codex approval achieved. This is a huge statement of intent for their company, products and ourselves as we promote their range in the UK Food & Beverage markets.
According to the ISC, the demand for Stevia continues to grow, with Drinks being the leading category for new product launches with Sports Nutrition, Supplements, Dairy, Snacks and Confectionery also seeing significant growth.
“New emerging categories include Desserts, Ice Cream, Bakery products and Cereals,” the ISC stated.
“Other leading categories include Soft Drinks, Supplements, Confectionary, Hot Drinks, Desserts, Ice Cream and Dairy. Given the growth of this market space, it is likely that the global trend for sugar reduction will continue to be a focus and relevant for consumers.”
